Refining Business Plans Through a 2-Day Practical Camp: Exploring Potential for Investment Linkage
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has stepped up to provide practical capacity-building support for entrepreneurs struggling during the initial stages of commercialization. The JBNU Startup Support Foundation hosted the ‘Honam Region Business Renewal Camp’ for pre-startups and early-stage entrepreneurs (within seven years of establishment), focusing on crystallizing business ideas and refining business plans.
The camp was specifically designed to address the realistic challenges faced by early-stage entrepreneurs who possess patents or technical know-how but struggle with market entry and the commercialization process. A total of 45 participants focused on strengthening the strategic and executive capabilities necessary to evolve their ideas into actual business models.
Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice Through 1:1 Mentoring
Moving beyond theoretical lectures, the program was structured around drafting business plans and verifying commercialization potential. Key components included:
- Strategic Lectures: Specialized sessions on business plan strategies for corporate growth.
- 1:1 Mentoring: Personalized sessions to evaluate the competitiveness and marketability of business models.
- Customized Consulting: Tailored advice to refine business plans, helping entrepreneurs close the gap between theory and practical application.
Through these processes, participants had the opportunity to move past the simple idea proposal stage and organize concrete execution plans for their businesses.
Establishing a Foundation for a Regional Startup Ecosystem
A defining feature of this camp was its evidence-based startup support approach. By providing intensive mentoring centered on individual business items, the camp improved the realism and completeness of business plans. It also sought to link participants with government-led commercialization support programs and potential investment opportunities. This design ensures that the event is not a one-time occurrence but a bridge to subsequent stages of business growth.
JBNU plans to use the insights gained from this camp to better understand the specific difficulties entrepreneurs face at each growth stage and to strengthen the foundation of the regional startup ecosystem.
Kuk Kyung-soo, Director of the JBNU Startup Support Foundation, stated, “The purpose of this program is to help early-stage entrepreneurs inspect their ideas and systematically organize their business plans. We will continue to operate customized startup support tailored to each growth stage.”
