Focused Education on Core Elements Including Participant Protection, Researcher Responsibility, and Ethical Judgment Criteria
Hoseo University Graduate School of Education held a special lecture addressing the ethical standards required in the field of social and behavioral science research, emphasizing the importance of researcher responsibility and the protection of participants’ rights. The special lecture took place on December 9th at the Cheonan Campus, with approximately 60 graduate students attending to learn bioethical principles centered on real-world research examples.
Professor Cho Sung-yeon led the lecture, organizing and explaining the bioethical elements essential for social and behavioral science research into three key pillars:
Fundamental principles such as the primary guarantee of research participants’ rights, the responsibilities and norms researchers must uphold, and the ethical judgment standards required during the research design and execution process were introduced alongside case studies, garnering agreement from the attendees. It was especially emphasized that accurate understanding of ethics must be the starting point of research, as the field of social and behavioral sciences involves many human subjects, meaning ethical violations can have significant social repercussions.
In his opening remarks, Dean Yeom Chang-sun of the Graduate School of Education stated that “Research ethics is a necessity, not an option, in the social and behavioral sciences,” and expressed the commitment to strengthening ethical education so that graduate school members can grow into responsible researchers. He added that “the researcher’s ethical competence is a core element in creating a professional research environment,” and promised to continuously expand bioethics education and practical programs. The Graduate School of Education operates systematic educational programs aimed at nurturing researchers with ethical conduct and expertise in various fields, including early childhood education, counseling education, educational administration, and AI convergence education.
