From Child and Elderly Care to Environmental Action: Shining a Light on ‘Quiet, Consistent Practice’<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The steady volunteer efforts of Hoseo University<\/strong> Social Welfare students have been officially recognized by the local welfare community. Students from ‘Ak-dong,’<\/strong> a volunteer club within the Department of Social Welfare, received appreciation plaques from the Cheonan General Social Welfare Center<\/strong> and the Cheonan Children’s Dream World<\/strong>, marking the culmination of their long-term, field-oriented service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Ak-dong’ is a volunteer club composed of social welfare majors. Since April of this year, in collaboration with the Cheonan General Social Welfare Center, they have operated various programs for children and the elderly. Moving beyond simple assistant roles, the students participated by directly planning and managing programs in partnership with local welfare agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bridging Generational Gaps and Environmental Awareness<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  • For Children:<\/strong> Through the ‘Children\u2019s Environmental Action Group’<\/strong> program, students led educational activities that linked environmental issues to daily practices. This program focused on helping children naturally recognize local community problems through environmental cleanup and sustainable living habits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • For the Elderly:<\/strong> The students operated the ‘Kind Nosiness (Seon-han O-ji-rap)’<\/strong> program, providing cognitive activities for dementia prevention and fostering intergenerational communication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • On-site Support:<\/strong> Since March, students have also played a supportive role at the Cheonan Children’s Dream World, managing child safety, organizing the environment, and supporting general facility operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Rather than focusing on flashy, event-driven volunteering, the students acted as ‘invisible hands,’ filling the everyday needs of the welfare field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Connecting Major Education with Social Practice<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Students who participated in the volunteering explained that these activities went beyond simple social contribution, directly connecting to their major education and career development. By meeting children, the elderly, and local residents face-to-face, they experienced the true meaning of social welfare practice and expanded their awareness of their future roles and responsibilities as social workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Hoseo University Department of Social Welfare views these appreciation plaques not as a one-time achievement, but as the result of accumulated field participation and practice. The department plans to continue its cooperation with local welfare institutions to expand opportunities for students to bridge the gap between academic learning and social action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
