Chonnam National University (CNU) has declared the nation’s first ‘AI Campus Transformation’<\/strong> among Korean universities, offering 8 types of generative AI fully and free of charge to all of its approximately 30,000 constituents. This measure, providing the same level of AI subscription service to students, professors, staff, and researchers, is assessed as an unprecedented attempt in a domestic university and a practical realization of CNU’s ‘AI for All @CNU’ vision. In line with the GloCal University 30<\/strong> core strategy, CNU is opening the generative AI services to all faculty, staff, and enrolled students starting December 15th, promoting structural innovation in university operation by fully adopting AI across education, research, and administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The eight types of generative AI being provided for free include ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Grok, Llama, Mistral, and Qwen.<\/strong> Individually subscribing to all these services would cost approximately 200,000 KRW (about $150) per month, but CNU constituents can utilize them freely without cost burden. These AIs are equipped with diverse functionalities\u2014including text and image generation, advanced searching, code writing and analysis, multi-language translation, data processing, and report writing\u2014and are expected to be widely utilized in education, research, and administrative settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the education sector<\/strong>, professors will use AI to enhance teaching quality by utilizing it for lecture material creation, learning content development, and assessment question design. Students will strengthen self-directed learning competence by utilizing AI across all aspects of learning, such as report writing, project design, research, and career\/study counseling. The plan is to establish an ‘AI-integrated campus’ where AI usage is normalized, by finding practical application cases across all majors, including natural sciences, engineering, humanities, social sciences, and arts and physical education. In the research sector<\/strong>, AI will be applied throughout the entire research process, from discovering thesis ideas to data analysis and drafting initial manuscripts, enhancing research productivity and competitiveness. In the administrative sector<\/strong>, administrative efficiency will be significantly improved through automated generation of meeting minutes, drafting of documents, and automation of various notices and report tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CNU is also preparing AI utilization education programs and guidelines in conjunction with the service launch. It plans to operate workshops, special lectures, and online courses to enhance the AI literacy of its constituents and establish a culture of responsible AI use by strengthening standards for copyright, personal information protection, and research ethics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Lee Keun-bae stated, “The free provision of these 8 types of generative AI is not a measure for specific majors or a few experts, but a starting point for all constituents to leap forward as an ‘AI-Based GloCal Innovation University’<\/strong> equipped with AI capabilities.” He affirmed CNU’s goal to accelerate AI innovation across all areas of education, research, and administration, positioning itself as an AI leading university with global competitiveness beyond Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This AI service was prepared as an achievement of the ‘Mutual Business Agreement (MOU) for the Leap to a GloCal University’<\/strong> signed between Chonnam National University and KT.
